Harvey Jay Friedman, MD, FACP
It is my pleasure to introduce you to the Saint Francis Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program!
For more than 100 years, Saint Francis Hospital has been providing high-quality, compassionate and family-centered care to the residents of Evanston, north Chicago and its surrounding communities. For more than 50 of those years, Saint Francis has been training internal medicine residents. The residency has an extensive track record of academic excellence. Our 10-year American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) certifying exam pass rate is more than 99%. The matched categorical interns for over the past 10 years had licensure exam scores (USMLE Parts I & II) that averaged greater than 255.
Saint Francis Hospital is a 375-bed, Level I Trauma Center that specializes in emergency and cardiac care. We are the only accredited Chest Pain Center on Chicago’s North Shore, a Joint Commission Accredited Primary Stroke Center, and home to a state-of-the-art wound care center complete with two hyperbaric chambers.
We are an affiliate of the University of Illinois at Chicago and are a major teaching site for medical students and physician assistant students from throughout the area, giving residents an excellent opportunity to develop their teaching and leadership skills. Our residents have ample resources for scholarly activity, and regularly present their works through abstracts, posters and presentations at national and regional ACP and SGIM meetings. Most importantly, Saint Francis offers residents a collegial, friendly atmosphere where the attending and administrative staffs are dedicated to teaching and making your three years here a rewarding one.
